Speaker Eligibility
  1. Each school may enter a maximum of two speakers (schools will be notified if any extra spaces become available)
  2. This competition is for students in years 8, 9 and 10
  3.  Students must be enrolled in schools from Paekākāriki to Ōtaki at the time of the competition.
  4. This competition is for both Māori and non-Māori students.

Speech Requirements
  1. Speeches must be written by the students.
  2. Speeches should not exceed 5 minutes.
  3. For the purpose of this competition & judging, the majority of the speech must be delivered in English.
  4. Cue cards may be used if required.
  5. Speeches must follow one of the kaupapa outlined in the Speech Topics section.
  6. Speakers are encouraged to speak to local iwi and experts for research and to use relevant whakatuakī
  7. Speakers are free to interpret the topics as they see fit

Tautoko
  1. Speakers are encouraged to bring support groups from their schools.
  2. Waiata or Haka tautoko are encouraged.
