Speaker Eligibility
- Each school may enter a maximum of two speakers (schools will be notified if any extra spaces become available)
- This competition is for students in years 8, 9 and 10
- Students must be enrolled in schools from Paekākāriki to Ōtaki at the time of the competition.
- This competition is for both Māori and non-Māori students.
Speech Requirements
- Speeches must be written by the students.
- Speeches should not exceed 5 minutes.
- For the purpose of this competition & judging, the majority of the speech must be delivered in English.
- Cue cards may be used if required.
- Speeches must follow one of the kaupapa outlined in the Speech Topics section.
- Speakers are encouraged to speak to local iwi and experts for research and to use relevant whakatuakī
- Speakers are free to interpret the topics as they see fit
Tautoko - Speakers are encouraged to bring support groups from their schools.
- Waiata or Haka tautoko are encouraged.
